I
am from Japan and came to Canada for two reasons.
1) to improve my English, and
2) to become a professional dog trainer.
While I was studying English, I happened to listen to an
interview on the radio that was broadcast from Kosovo. The
interview was with a person by the name of Doug
Morrison, who was stationed in Kosovo working
dogs in the mine fields. The more I listened, the more
intrigued I became. I heard him say he was from Ottawa and
would be returning in Nov. 2000.
I
had been looking into the different organizations that
give dog trainers courses, but I must admit, I was
completely taken by the interview I was listening to.
I
knew nothing about this person so I did my research, and
after talking to the Canadian government, I made up my
mind. I wanted to be trained by only Doug Morrison.
I waited patiently until he returned and phoned.
I
met with Doug, and could tell we hit it
off. My English was not that great but Doug
assured me that we would take our time, and he could see
me finishing the course in the allotted time frame that I
was on. One thing I didn't realize was that the majority
of dog trainers in the Ottawa area were trained by Mr.
Morrison. His incredible experiences and
expertise with dogs and people made my choice a no
contest. I enrolled in his Professional Dog Trainers
Course.
Not only did I find his expertise with dogs incredible but
his patience with me is something I will never forget. The
time I have spent with Doug is a
significant part of my life, and wish other people could
just meet him to realize what a warm, knowledgeable person
he is.
I asked Doug if I could say something on
his web site to thank him the right way. He has allowed me
to give you this testimonial. Thank you, Doug,
for giving me a chance for my dream to come true. I would
also like to thank his wife June for putting up with me as
well and all the friendly students that I have had the
opportunity to teach.
I am very proud to say that I am returning to Japan, and
opening up a Morrison Canine Concepts dog training school.
I can hardly wait until the spring of 2002 when Doug
comes over to put on my first seminar. AKIKO
TAKAHASHI
DO YOU HAVE A CANINE FRIEND THAT'S TAKING
OVER YOUR LIFE??
Doug Morrison has become a very important part
of my life. I have a 13 year old Yorkie (the Professor) He was a
treat , right the very start. then I rescued a 4 month old Yorkie,
(the Judge), and lets just say we will call him the Tornado. He was
completely out of control. He barked continually, refused to be toilet
trained, and would jump all over me and my guests all the time. His
favorite place would be to run over the neck and shoulders and bite at
my eyes all the time. For months I could never enjoy a cup of tea
without wearing half of it.
I enrolled the Judge in puppy classes and took
him faithfully for 8 lessons. did I see any change ? NONE
The explanation the trainer gave me was that he
was just too small to teach in any conventional manner. They suggested
that I practice more with him and then enroll him in another 8 week
course called the obedience course. So there I go again, out with the
check book. they also said it was important to bring him without
feeding him. A hungry dog will do anything for food. RIGHT. After two
or three pieces of food a 2.5 pound Yorkie is full. He lost interest
and I had a dog that was even worse. Mind you I have 2 certificates
stating that he graduated from puppy school and obedience school. WHAT
A JOKE.
At this point I had a dog that was approaching 1
year of age and I was very frustrated and loosing faith. I was really
sorry I had taken him on......
AND THEN THERE WAS DOUG
Doug Morrison rescued me. Doug understands Dogs
and loves them. He taught me about the canine world and how not to
confuse it to the human world. Doug explained his philosophies and his
reasoning behind what it was he was asking me to do, although I had
reservations, I agrees to give it a try.
After only ONE lesson, the Judge stopped his
barking. I had learned that pushing the dog off me did not hurt his
feelings, but rather that it taught him respect for me. Food treats
were out as a reward, just lots of love and kisses.
I now had a clear idea of what I WAS EXPECTED TO
DO in order to ultimately achieve the desired results with my little
guy. All of this in only ONE LESSON.
Needless to say that one lesson has changes my
entire life. Under DOUG'S METHOD of dog training I understand what a
trained dog is all about.
NO food or other bribes were used to achieve
these results. It was never even suggested that I punish or hurt my
dog. I SIMPLY FOLLOWED DOUG'S INSTRUCTIONS. His years of expertise
really paid off for me.
Thanks to Doug Morrison I have a better
understanding of dogs.
The Judge has finished his basic obedience course,
which includes both on and off leash work, and I now have him in the
SUPER DOG COURSE. Look at the pictures........
I know Doug will always be there to help me if
needed. Its nice to know that not only I have a new friend, but so do my
boys. thank you DOUG
